NRS POS — the bodega and convenience-store POS where tobacco scan, ID scanning, and EBT are built in, not bolted on.

Four hardware variants on one platform. Tobacco scan program and license ID scanning across all variants. EBT on Puma and Cheetah. Petroleum-ready Cheetah for gas stations. Bundled with NRS Pay for integrated card processing. Tabletop sizes the variant to the store and stays on as your support contact.

Who NRS POS is for

NRS POS is built for small-format retail — where compliance is part of the ring.

Convenience stores, bodegas, smoke shops, liquor stores, gas stations, corner delis, cafes, and beauty salons. Stores where tobacco scan, license ID scanning, and EBT acceptance are part of the daily floor, not aftermarket add-ons.

If your room is a full-service restaurant with a kitchen workflow as the centerpiece, NRS POS is not the system for you and we will tell you that on the cost analysis call. The operators NRS POS earns its keep with are the corner stores where the tobacco scan database needs updating when a new manufacturer rolls out a product, where the ID scanner runs hundreds of swipes a week on alcohol sales, where EBT is half the ticket on a Wednesday morning, and where a generic POS support line cannot help when the compliance overlay throws an error mid-shift.

Tabletop is the NRS POS reseller. We do not just send hardware. We choose the right variant for your store — Puma for a single-counter bodega, Cheetah for the gas-station forecourt and multi-lane retail, Panther for cafes and salons that need the mobile-capable platform. We configure the tobacco scan program, EBT, and license ID scanning during deployment, train your staff, and stay on as your day-zero support contact.

What's in the platform

Six things bodega and convenience operators ask every POS to do.

Each piece is built into NRS POS. The platform is designed for the categories these stores actually sell — tobacco, alcohol, lottery, EBT-eligible, petroleum — with the compliance overlays in the same software, not stitched on after.

Tobacco scan program

Tobacco scan runs on all four hardware variants. The platform handles the manufacturer scan data compliance programs require — the reason NRS POS is on the shortlist for most convenience and smoke-shop operators we work with.

License ID scanning

Age-restricted sales (tobacco, alcohol, certain lottery categories) get an ID-scan gate at the register. Built into every variant. The ID scan logs against the transaction so audits and compliance reviews have a record.

EBT acceptance (Puma + Cheetah)

EBT is supported on the Puma and Cheetah variants — the ones positioned for convenience, bodega, and gas-station formats. Panther and Panther Workstation are cafe / salon / smoke-shop variants where EBT is not part of the daily ring.

Petroleum-ready Cheetah

Cheetah is the petroleum-ready variant for gas stations. Pricebook scales to 10,000 items for the broader convenience / forecourt inventory; multi-checkout-lane setups are sized during deployment.

Customer-facing screen

Puma and Cheetah include a customer-facing screen so the buyer sees the ring, the totals, and any age-restricted compliance prompts before payment. Used for customer-facing ads on slower hours.

NRS Pay bundle option

NRS Pay is the vendor's integrated card processing service. Bundling NRS POS with NRS Pay produces a single platform-plus-processing setup; running NRS POS with other processing is also supported. We map the right approach to your statement on the cost analysis call.

Hardware lineup

Four variants on the same platform — matched to your store.

The same NRS POS software runs on four different hardware footprints. Tabletop sizes the right one to your store during the cost analysis call — the wrong variant in the right format costs you money in counter space, features you do not need, or features you needed and did not get.

NRS Pay bundle

One vendor for the POS and the processing — or unbundled, your call.

The vendor offers NRS POS bundled with NRS Pay (their integrated card processing) as a single setup. The pairing typically produces the best pricing structure for new customers, but NRS POS also runs alongside other processing arrangements. On the cost analysis call we read your existing statement and tell you which path actually saves the store money — bundle, unbundled, or staying with your current processor and adding NRS POS on top.

Best-fit verticals

Where NRS POS earns its keep

Small-format retail where compliance overlays, EBT, and category-specific features matter. Several of NRS POS's primary verticals (convenience stores, bodegas, gas stations) do not yet have dedicated industry pages on this site — we walk through the right fit on the cost analysis call.

Food trucks & small-format operators

Mobile and small-counter operators where compact hardware and integrated processing matter.

Multi-checkout retail

Cheetah-scale stores with multiple checkout lanes and larger pricebook footprints.

Cafes & quick-service

Cafe operators using Panther's WiFi-mobile platform with kitchen printing for counter service.

Convenience · bodegas · gas stations

NRS POS's primary verticals. Dedicated industry pages on the way — for now, send us your statement and we will walk through the fit on the call.

Pricing posture

Real numbers come from your statement — not a public rate card.

NRS POS pricing depends on which variant fits your store, whether the bundle with NRS Pay makes sense for your processing volume, and what current promotional pricing the vendor is running. We do not post a rate card.

Send us your most recent processor statement and we will come back with a real comparison — that is the complimentary cost analysis call. Two structural paths typically surface. The first is the NRS POS plus NRS Pay bundle, where the platform and the integrated card processing land as a single arrangement; the vendor runs new-customer promotional pricing on this path from time to time. The second is the unbundled path — NRS POS as the platform with your existing or a separately-arranged processor handling the cards. Which one fits depends on your statement.

Either way the deliverable is the same: a statement-reviewed comparison, a real recommendation for what NRS POS would cost in your store, and a no-pressure conversation about whether NRS POS is actually the right fit or whether one of the other systems we resell is better matched to your room.

FAQ

Common questions

Who is NRS POS built for?

Convenience stores, bodegas, smoke shops, liquor stores, gas stations, corner delis, cafes, and beauty salons — small-format retail where tobacco scan compliance, license ID scanning for age-restricted sales, and EBT acceptance are part of the daily ring. NRS POS is not a full-service restaurant POS and we will tell you that on the cost analysis call instead of fitting the wrong system to your room.

What hardware comes with NRS POS?

Four hardware variants on the same platform. Puma is the compact countertop for small-to-medium convenience stores, bodegas, smoke shops, liquor stores, and corner delis. Cheetah is for medium-to-large stores, gas stations, and stores with multiple checkout lanes. Panther is the wireless and mobile-capable platform for cafes, smoke shops, liquor stores, and beauty salons. Panther Workstation is Panther in a fixed workstation form factor. Tabletop sizes the right variant to your store during the cost analysis call.

Does NRS POS handle tobacco compliance and ID scanning?

Yes. Tobacco scan program runs on all four hardware variants — the platform handles the manufacturer data scan that compliance programs require. License ID scanning is on every variant as well, for age-verified sales of tobacco, alcohol, and other restricted categories. For most operators in our convenience and smoke-shop channel, the tobacco scan program is the reason NRS POS is on the shortlist in the first place.

Which variants accept EBT?

Puma and Cheetah accept EBT. Panther and Panther Workstation do not — those variants are positioned for cafes, salons, and the smoke / liquor stores where EBT is not part of the daily ring. If you run a corner store or convenience format where EBT acceptance matters, Puma or Cheetah is your variant. We confirm exact EBT scope (cash, food, WIC) against the vendor during the cost analysis call.

What is NRS Pay and is it required?

NRS Pay is the vendor's integrated card processing service that bundles with NRS POS. The pairing produces a single point-of-sale plus card-processing setup. NRS Pay is optional — NRS POS can run with other processing arrangements — but the bundle is where the pricing structure typically lands best. We walk through whether the bundle or standalone POS plus separate processing fits your statement on the cost analysis call.

Who installs NRS POS and who supports it?

Tabletop is the NRS POS reseller. We run the statement review, choose the right hardware variant for your store, configure the tobacco scan program, EBT, and license ID scanning during deployment, train your staff, and stay on as your day-zero support contact. When the tobacco scan database needs updating after a new manufacturer rolls out a product, you call us instead of fighting through a generic POS support line.
