About Tabletop

We started Tabletop because the payments industry was broken for the operator.

Independent businesses get sold the wrong systems by people who'll never see them again. ISO partners get handcuffed by upstream companies who won't return their calls. Tabletop was built to be the opposite of that — for both audiences.

The story

Why Tabletop exists.

Tabletop Technologies was founded in January 2021 in New Jersey. The reason was simple, and a little frustrating: the payments industry was failing the people it was supposed to serve.

In one paragraph

The same broken pattern, on both sides of the industry.

Merchants were getting sold a terminal and a contract by a rep who disappeared the moment the deal closed. ISO partners were getting handcuffed by upstream processors who wouldn’t pick up the phone when their merchants needed help. Both sides were getting the worst version of the industry.

Tabletop was built to be the opposite of that — for both audiences. Honest answers. Real operational ecosystems instead of one-size-fits-all boxes. Someone who picks up the phone. And, just as importantly, real cross-industry experience behind every recommendation, not a generic playbook applied to whoever walks in the door.

What we believe

Three values, in order of importance.

These aren't slogans. They're how we run the business and how we treat both the merchants we serve and the partners we work with.

01

Honest answers — even when “no” is the right one.

If a switch isn’t worth it for your business, we’ll tell you. If a loan product doesn’t fit your situation, we’ll tell you. If a system you already have is the right one, we’ll tell you that too — and we won’t spend an hour trying to talk you out of it. The shortest path to trust is being someone who actually has your interests in mind.

02

Ecosystems, not transactions.

Most resellers push one or two systems and walk away. Tabletop builds complete operational stacks across multiple partners — POS, payments, automation, capital, support — integrated so the business runs cleaner. Because running your own business is already a full-time job. Building your own tech ecosystem shouldn’t be a second one.

03

We pick up the phone when others won’t.

Saturday night, 5pm Friday, the moment a system goes down: you need someone to answer. That’s the part of the industry that’s been broken the longest. Tabletop is the team that answers. That’s also why we offer Premium Support to operators who need it and why our ISO partners have a real backline behind them.

Where the depth comes from

Tabletop builds across two dozen industries because we’ve lived in them.

The cross-industry depth that lets us design operational ecosystems for restaurants, mechanics, grocery, building supply, medical practices, and everything in between — it didn’t come from a payments-industry handbook. It came from a life spent surrounded by the people who run those businesses.

Built around the trades.

The founder grew up in a construction family — father and uncles running construction companies, the kind of work where you learn early that operations and margins are decided in the field, not in a back office. That meant being on jobsites young, watching how supply runs work, how subs get paid, how a builder who runs his books well stays in business and one who doesn’t doesn’t. Years later, after working as a general contractor in his own right, those same dynamics showed up at the heart of Tabletop’s building-materials and contractor accounts.

Raised around restaurants.

Family on the restaurant side too — uncles who owned restaurants, a cousin who became a chef, a stretch working in restaurants through college. You learn things in a kitchen and on a service line you can’t learn anywhere else: what a thin margin actually feels like, why a POS that ignores how service works is useless to an operator, how a Friday-night system failure becomes a real revenue problem in about ten minutes. That experience now sits behind every restaurant ecosystem Tabletop designs.

Surrounded by operators across industries.

A sister running a title agency. A cousin running a masonry company. A wider circle of family and friends in different fields, each one running their own business in their own way. Spending years in conversation with operators across that many industries is its own form of education — the kind that teaches you what actually moves the needle for each type of business and what gets sold to them as a solution but doesn’t.

Then a career across the disciplines that connect it all.

A run through finance taught how lenders, advisors, and operators actually look at cash flow and capital structure. A run through software-as-a-service taught what good operations and ongoing customer relationships look like — the modern SaaS playbook of real onboarding, real support, real ongoing relationships rather than one-time sales. And then years deep in merchant services itself: long enough to see what works, what doesn’t, and what the industry quietly costs both merchants and ISO partners by selling the same packaged answer to every kind of business.

All of it, connected.

Tabletop is what you get when somebody who actually grew up around the work, who’s spent years inside both the operational side and the financial side, and who’s seen the payments industry from the inside, decides to build the version of the company those operators always needed. Not a payments reseller. An operator-to-operator ecosystem builder.

Who we serve

If you have a unique need, that’s exactly when to call us.

Tabletop works across more than two dozen verticals. But what brings most operators to us isn’t that we already serve their industry — it’s that they have a need their current vendor can’t solve.

What this means in practice:

  • If we’ve already built ecosystems in your industry, we move fast — you get the benefit of pattern recognition.
  • If you’re in an industry we haven’t served before, we don’t turn you away. We do the work to understand it.
  • We treat “new vertical” problems as opportunities to build something useful, not reasons to refer you elsewhere.
  • Multi-state operations, niche compliance requirements, custom integrations — the unusual is where Tabletop tends to do its best work.

If you’re a business owner asking yourself:

  • “Does anyone actually understand my industry?”
  • “Why does my POS not talk to my online ordering / inventory / scheduling?”
  • “Am I overpaying for processing and don’t know how to tell?”
  • “What does the right tech stack for my business actually look like?”
  • “Who do I call when something breaks at 8pm on a Saturday?”

— that’s the conversation we’re built for.

Where we are

Headquartered in New Jersey. Working nationwide.

A small, focused team of payments and operations specialists. We work with businesses and ISO partners across the country — from independent operators with a single location to multi-state groups managing dozens.

A note on size

We’re intentionally small.

The team is sized so every account gets a real person who knows their setup. No call-center support. No outsourced onboarding. When we say “single point of contact,” it’s actually true — and that’s a deliberate choice, not a limitation we’re going to grow out of.

Want to talk about your business?

Free 15-minute consultation. We’ll review your situation, your tech, and your processing — and tell you honestly whether Tabletop is the right fit. No pressure, no hard sell.
